Latest NFL news gives Falcons a sigh of relief but it’s only temporary
John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to be in the clear, for now.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the league is still reviewing possible tampering by the Atlanta Falcons and the investigation will not conclude this week.

Pelissero notes that means the Falcons won't lose any of their 2024 NFL draft picks since the draft kicks off on Thursday, April 25.

The investigation stems from quarterback Kirk Cousins' introductory press conference where he may have unintentionally admitted that he spoke with the Falcons' head athletic trainer and their director of player personnel before the legal tampering window officially opened on March 13.

Additionally, Cousins said that Falcons' tight end Kyle Pitts had been actively recruiting him for multiple weeks, which could also become a violation if Pitts knew about the team's free agency plan to sign him.

The Falcons' punishment is still to be determined, but at least this year's draft picks won't be touched.
