Chiefs owner tries to explain 'miscommunication' that led to ugly grade on NFLPA report card

The Kansas City Chiefs received four F grades on their 2024 NFL Players Association report card, but team owner Clark Hunt claims one of them wasn’t his fault.

The annual survey, which is designed to “highlight positive clubs, identify areas that could use improvement and highlight best practices and standards,” revealed 47 Chiefs players graded the team an F in four categories: nutritionist, locker room, training staff and ownership.

The report card revealed the players felt lied to after being told the locker room would undergo a full renovation prior to the 2022 season. However, it never happened because the team won the Super Bowl and there wasn’t enough time to do the upgrades before the start of the following season — a promise Hunt says was never actually made.

“I have spoken to some of our veteran players about that, and they’ve confirmed to me that it was miscommunication,” Hunt told The Athletic. “Certainly, I personally never said anything to them about a renovation of the locker room. It was a misunderstanding.”

Of the 11 categories the Chiefs were graded on, they got a C+ or worse in every one except head coach, which they gave Andy Reid an A+.

While the players don’t appear happy with anything ownership is doing or has done recently, Reid spoke highly of Hunt to The Athletic at the NFL owners’ meeting in Orlando, Florida.

“I think Clark does a great job,” Reid said. “Whatever they say about everything else, I give him an A+ because he gives us an opportunity to win games. … He allows us to get players and keep players. That’s a tough thing to do as you navigate through the salary cap.”
