The month of May has been a tough one for the Miami Marlins and there's a good chance it gets even worse with the news of Jazz Chisholm Jr's injury.
ESPN is reporting that the star outfielder has been put on the 10-day injured list because of a right toe injury deemed as turf toe. Manager Skip Schumaker expects Chisholm to miss four to six weeks, which will certainly be a blow for Miami.
Chisholm was injured on Saturday in a 6-5 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. He ran into the center field wall while attempting to make a catch. Notably, Chisholm was an All-Star last year as a second baseman. This season is his first in the outfield.
"Not what you want from your star center fielder," Schumaker said regarding the injury. "We put a lot on his plate early in the year and in spring training, and he's done nothing but grow in that position.
"Definitely a tough loss. Looking forward to him getting healthy and back."
So far this season Chisholm has seven home runs, 16 RBI and is tied for second in MLB with 14 steals.
